Almost a year ago, I learnt of the shocking and tragic death of my Parliamentary colleague, Jo Cox MP. A rising star in our democracy, Jo inspired us all when she told Parliament that “we are far more united and have far more in common with each other than things that divide us”.
It is in that spirit of friendship, and in memory of Jo, that I am delighted to extend an invitation of you to join me in celebrating the ‘Great Get Together’; a new and exciting event in celebration of all that we have in common.
To celebrate, I will be hosting a charity tea and coffee morning at the newly refurbished Three Trees Centre, Hedingham Grove, Birmingham B37 7TP, on Friday 16th June between 11am and 1.00pm.
I am delighted to tell you that all the profits from the sale of refreshments will go towards supporting three excellent, local charities;
Welcome - a drug and alcohol treatment and support service based in Chelmsley Wood;
The Haven - A support service for people with Breast Cancer based in Knowle;
and, the Three Trees Centre, our hosts for the day.
So please come along, and enjoy a slice of cake and a cup of tea with your friends and neighbours, and explore the work of many of the voluntary organisations who touch the lives of so many people across the community as we celebrate all that is great about the Meriden constituency.
With very best wishes,
Dame Caroline Spelman
