Local MP supports HS2 deep bore tunnel

Local MP supports HS2 deep bore tunnel
At a packed public meeting at the Heart of England School on Friday night, local MP Caroline Spelman lent her support to calls for a deep bore tunnel under the area from Burton Green to the north of Berkswell to mitigate the impact of HS2 on the local community.

“I am full square behind the proposals to mitigate HS2,” she said. “I have written to every parish council affected in my constituency to offer my help and support with mitigation and compensation for my constituents”.

The meeting was attended by constituents of both the Meriden constituency and the Kenilworth and Southam constituency. Several members of the public complained about the community forums set up by HS2 Ltd to discuss mitigation and Mrs Spelman read out a response she had received when taking up her constituents' complaints which offered to make improvements to these meetings. There were calls to merge two of the local forums into one and invite the Transport Secretary to attend particularly to consider the tunnel option. Both Caroline and Jeremy Wright MP who was also present agreed to take this request up with Justine Greening, Secretary of State for Transport.
