Local MP and residents put their petitions in for HS2 Bill

Local MP Caroline Spelman and local residents in the Meriden constituency have delivered their petitions to the HS2 Hybrid Bill Select Committee. Caroline put forward a petition to address the current lack of compensation for the many residents who will be blighted by over five years of construction works across the Meriden constituency.  The deadline for petitions from individuals to be submitted was 23rd May.

Caroline said, “The HS2 Hybrid Bill petitioning process enables those who would be directly and specifically affected by the project to have an input into the Bill.  A lot of hard work went into putting these petitions together, and I was glad to assist residents in this process.  I have also submitted my own petition, asking for compensation for blight caused by construction works.”

The petitions will now be considered by the Select Committee, beginning in July.  Petitioners may be asked to appear before the Committee to give further evidence.
