Information about the nature and extent of the compensation measures will be communicated to the residents and communities affected by the construction of the line.
In order to improve the communication of the compensation packages, the procedure will comply with the principles of the Residents’ Charter; greater focus has been placed on ensuring that residents are treated in a fair and transparent manner throughout the compensatory process.
Property owners affected by Phase One of HS2 will be offered a single named officer to deal with throughout the process, and will be offered the opportunity to meet in private with a property specialist from HS2 Ltd. HS2 Ltd have committed to responding to enquiries within a reasonable time. To ensure the principles and commitments of the Residents’ Charter are upheld, a Residents’ Commissioner will be appointed.
Caroline Spelman commented, ‘Although I am glad HS2 Ltd recognise the importance of fair and straightforward compensation packages and are committed to dealing with residents swiftly and considerately, there is still work to do to ensure the best compensation and mitigation measures for my constituents. I will continue to fight to maintain local biodiversity, to establish a tunnel at Berkswell and for more flexible and comprehensive compensation.’
