CAROLINE JOINS LOCAL SCHOOL CHILDREN AT RAM HALL FARM
Caroline Spelman, MP for Meriden constituency and Secretary of State for DEFRA, visited Ram Hall Farm in Berkswell on Friday July 6th along with children from Berkswell CE Primary School. The children met the farmer, learnt how food is produces and worked with a real chef to make their lunch using some of the farm produce.
The children were given a tour of the farm by Stephen Fletcher, shown a display of cheese-making by Lin Dutch, and took part in a cookery session with executive chef Idris Caldora of Chefs Adopt a School.
Ram Hall Farm is a centre for Farming and Countryside Education (FACE) and is working with the Chefs Adopt a School Trust in developing this exciting new project aimed at KS2 primary school children.
Caroline said: “Visiting a place like Ram Hall Farm is one of the joys of my job, not just as the local MP, but also in my other role for DEFRA. After making trips round the country inspecting the devastating effects of flood damage, it was wonderful to come home to the constituency and see Ram Hall Farm and I really enjoyed the cooking!
“I can't think of a better way to teach young children about the origins of their food and demonstrate that it doesn't have to come plastic-wrapped in supermarkets. I hope they learnt a lot at Ram Hall Farm and have taken away lots of ideas about cooking and perhaps growing some of their own produce.”
